Benefits of Swimming
SO WHY SWIMMING?
Swimming impacts your life in many different ways and the benefits are many.
YOU GOTTA BE ABLE TO PADDLE BEFORE YOU CAN SWIM
Taking baby steps can be infuriatingly too slow for some people, but successful swimmers know that this slow grind provides a cumulative effect that makes a massive dent in the mid and long term.
Success in the pool – and life – is achieved step by step, mistake by mistake, small win by small win.
RESULTS COME BECAUSE YOU ARE GOOD A LOT, NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE PERFECT SOMETIMES
Not every swim or race will go according to plan. Mistakes, DQ’s and suit Malfunctions happen, you learn its part of the journey.
When we learn to chase greatness instead of perfection, we discover that we are more resilient to failure by creating more realistic goals not only in the pool also in life.
IT’S ALL MENTAL
Swimming, and sport, provides an exceptional proving ground for testing your mental limits. The reality is you never know how shockingly tough you are until you are in the soup, crushing that set even though mere minutes prior you were mentally quivering in your swimsuit. We always think we aren’t capable, that swimming or life finally has our number, but believe it or not, you will always be as strong as you need to be.
CULTIVATING PEOPLE SKILLS
Swimming is as much an individual sport as it is a team sport. They develop their social skills and interpersonal skills. This translates to social environments at school, work and other communal activities. In addition, The camaraderie that results from such a dynamic environment offers other life-long benefits, such as self-confidence.
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
While there will be instances when swimmers don’t achieve their intended goals, they, together with the support of their coach, family and team, learn avenues to cope. Swimmers learn about the importance of sportsmanship and discover how to handle tough competition and emerge victorious every time.
UNDERSTANDING THE VALUE OF COMMITMENT AND HARD WORK
The practice schedule of swimmers is demanding. Swimming requires commitment, and swimmers very quickly understand what it directly equates to in everyday life.
THE MEDITATIVE BENEFITS ARE UNPARALLELED
Swimming provides an outlet to release pent-up energy, clear the mind, and push one’s internal re-set button. Swimmers emerge more energized and ready to take on the day and learn how to tap into their relief outlet when needed.
SWIMMING IS NOT ONLY A SPORT, IT IS A LIFESTYLE
The life that we lead prepares us for our future and brings us perspective. The lessons that we learn from swimming will follow us through life. Some of these lessons are difficult to handle, but in the end they make us stronger swimmers and more importantly stronger people.
